On The Road To Boston

I’m off to Boston and Photoshop World this week. I’ll be hooking up with Martin Evening there as well–we are actually doing a conference session together! Which Download Movies should be fun because I’ll get to make fun of the way Martin pronounces common Photoshop tools’ names. Those Brits…they even misspell the word color!

Andrew Rodney and JP Caponigro and I are doing another mini-Print Academy for Epson. After PSW I’m off to hook up with Seth Resnick and Michael Reichmann in Miami Beach for some tutorial taping….more about that later!

On the Road to Photoshop World-Orlando

No, I’m not going to Disney World…but I am in Orlando getting ready for the kick-off of this year’s Photoshop World.

The theme this year is THE EVOLUTION (probably because of the “evolution” of Photoshop) and rumor has it that Scott Kelby will be dressed as Captain Kirk and the staff will be the crew of the Starship Enterprise.

I’ve already run into Scott (not literally-I just saw him walking by on crutches). Seems Scott had a little accident. It’s either a 1)-a skiing accident while in the Swiss Alps, 2)-a kick boxing accident when delivering a vicious round kick or 3)-an unfortunate treadmill incident. We’ll investigate and report back so stay tuned…

Just found this story from Scott’s blog: I’m Heading to Photoshop World today. On Crutches!

Political photography: The illusionists

Photo op by Peter Kennard

The camera never lies – or does it? Peter Kennard and Alexander Rodchenko have both manipulated images to undermine those in power. The results are subversive and unsettling, says Tom Lubbock

Source: The Independent

What is the power of images? Take this one. It shows Tony Blair, in shirt and tie, facing more or less front, and grinning hard, as he takes his own photo. But behind him the scene is entirely filled with the smoke and fire of a massive explosion, blowing the desert apart. Its detonation seems to be simultaneous with Blair’s snap.

Ok, Probably Tonite Says Scott

Scott Kelby wrote last week of Photoshop User TV’s premier on “real TV” but there seems to have been, uh, well, a technical glitch? However, today on his blog (Photoshop Insider) he posted “I somewhat hesitate to say this, but tonight, there is a more than a reasonable chance that at 1:30 am (same time in each time zone), Photoshop User TV will make it’s “real” television debut on Fox Business channel.”

The annual PDN Photo Plus event took place from the 18th–20th October at the Javits Center, New York. Once again, the Pixel Geniuses were all out in force at the show, as were many of our friends and colleagues at Adobe. Here is a picture diary of some of the things that happened last week, with photographs by myself and Andrew Rodney.

On the Road to New York City

I’ll be on the road to New York City and PhotoPlus Expo this week. You can check out what PixelGenius will be doing there (including my activities) in This PhotoshopNews story PixelGenius at PhotoPlus Expo.

In addition to those activities I’ll also be in the Canon booth shooting on Thursday at 11:30AM (and yes, I’ll be using a 1Ds MIII) and the Peachpit Booth on Friday at 2PM talking about…Camera Raw of course. I’ll also be doing a print signing at the Epson both on Saturday at 1:45PM (come get a signed print–FREE). Thursday night we’re throwing another annual Pixel Mafia dinner (the usual suspects know where and when).

So, not a lot of posting this week but I have a ton of stories lined up. Oh, yeah, next week I’ll also be gone Monday & Tuesday–I’ll be at a press check for Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3. Seems Peachpit is actually gonna print the thing!

How Warhol, Hockney’s Photos Led to Revolution

Written by Martin Gayford

Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) — The love-hate affair between painting and photography has been simmering ever since the latter was invented. In the interval, photographers have often imitated the effects of painting, and — as a new show at London’s Hayward Gallery documents — many painters have worked from photographs.

On the Road to Photoshop World

I’m off to Vegas baby…I may do some posts from there (or I may not-depends on the amount of frenzied activity). I’ll be doing another mini-Epson Print Academy with Andrew Rodney and JP Caponigro (sold out) as well as a Real World Camera Raw session on Friday and Making the Perfect B&W print on Saturday.

If you’re going, stop by and say hello! If you aren’t going, I’ll have photos upon my return–which won’t be until next week because I’m off to Adobe, San Jose to cause trouble!

Scott’s Lightroom Tour–LIVE!

Last week I stopped by Scott Kelby’s Lightroom LIVE Tour as he blew through the Windy City (that’s Chicago for you folks from away). I grabbed a few shots while visiting. Warning, no particularly important editorial content (but funny shots) included.
