Friday Summary / 04-29-2005

We had forgotten to post a weekly summary on Friday, April 22, 2005. We added a summary on Monday, April 25th so this week’s summary will be a bit shorter than usual (if you can call anything “usual” for a publication that is only four weeks old as of today).

The week gone by saw some useful stories, so in case you missed them, here’s a roundup:

On Monday, April 25th, 2005, Microsoft released Microsoft Windows XP-64. This story Microsoft launches 64-bit Windows from ZDNet talks about 64 bit computing.

On Monday PSN reported a story from eWeek about Forgent Sues Microsoft over JPEG Patent.

Also on Moday, CNET News covered the launch of the web site in the story Photographers ask Camera Makers to Open Up. PSN covered the launch of the new web site with a story on Saturday, April 23rd.

On Tuesday, April 25th, Jeff Schewe posted an article Camera Raw 3, Photoshop CS2 & Bridge about the new relationship between Camera Raw 3, Photoshop CS2 and the new Adobe Bridge.

Also on Tuesday was a report of an incredibly funny, uh, “screenplay” (for lack of a better description) called Raw Wars – Episode 7, Empire Resurrection by DiaAzul (AKADavid Plummer ) who posted it on the Luminous Landscape Forums. See the original thread.

On Wednesday, April 27th, posted a DNG Support Status listing current support for Adobe’s DNG.

PSN reported that Adobe has posted Troubleshooting guides for both Macintosh and Windows Installation problems for Photoshop CS2.

PSN notes that the Imaging Revue web site has shut it’s doors.

PSN also notes that Adobe has posted a registration for users to get involved with usability testing and provide feedback for new products as well as a form to sign up for support announcements by email.

Also on Wednesday, we reported on an interview of David Coffin on DPReview that has produced a lot of comments. See RAW storm in a teacup? Dave Coffin interviewed

On Thursday, April 28th. PSN posted an announcement that Adobe Photoshop CS2 Tryouts Available with direct download links provided.

CreativePro editor in chief Terri Stone writes about the design company MetaDesign, who did a great job producing icon art and package design for the Creative Suite 2 in this story Inside CS2: MetaDesign Shares Its Secrets. Now we know what the FEATHERS are supposed to mean!

On Thursday, Jeff Schewe posted a review of Chris Rainier’s new book ANCIENT MARKS: The Sacred Origins of Tattoos and Body Marking. Do yourself a favor and check the web site, read the review and get the book!

Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape has written a good introductory tutorial Merge to HDR in Photoshop CS2 – A First Look.

BetaNews also reported Thursday that TigerDirect Sues Apple Over New OS but also reported that Apple Prepares for Tiger’s Public Leap. As of today, we have many reposts of people receiving their Tiger upgrade, so Apple is selling even if TigerDirect is suing.

This is the week that was. . .April 25-29, 2005.
