Photoshop Widows Club - Rebecca Schewe

Once upon a time, I fell in love with an artist who couldn’t draw, Jeff Schewe. Luckily he found out that with a camera he could accomplish what he couldn’t in other mediums. We set up a studio, worked together and lived happily . . . until one day, he met Photoshop.

Hi, my name is Becky Schewe and I am an unwitting member of the Photoshop Widows Club. I guess it’s the same old story but now that it’s personal, I have a new respect for those who wait and wonder.

Photoshop Widows Club - The Extremist

Years ago, Thomas took a liking to hot sauce. As we all know from my previous Widows Club stories, Thomas is obsessive, to the point of being an extremist. So, I’d have to say that Thomas took an extreme liking to hot sauce. At first he would have a bottle of TABASCO® Red Pepper Sauce on the kitchen table or ask for it at a restaurant. Then he discovered TABASCO Green Pepper Sauce. It went on everything. The new flavor was great but it just did not have the zip that TABASCO Red did.

Soon the heat and tingle of the sauce just started to fade - he was up to about a half a small (2 oz.) bottle a week at this point.

Russell Brown Comes Clean, Reveals All

In a shocking revelation, Russell Preston Brown, Sr. Creative Director at Adobe Systems Incorporated and long time Photoshop Evangelist, has revealed that he is leaving the United States on Friday, May 6th, (today), 2005. He indicated that he would be going to Australia.

Before he leaves, Mr. Brown said in a phone call that he wanted to make a definitive statement regarding the “official story” behind Photoshop, its development by John and Thomas Knoll and exactly how it was acquired by Adobe Systems, Inc.

First Time With Photoshop – Bert Monroy

While in Chicago recently, I was having lunch with my good friend Jeff Schewe, when he asked me if I remembered the first time I saw Photoshop. I will admit, it did not have the same impact as the question “where were you when you heard JFK got shot” so I don’t remember the exact moment, but. . .

I do remember the excitement it caused.

Friday Summary / 04-29-2005

We had forgotten to post a weekly summary on Friday, April 22, 2005. We added a summary on Monday, April 25th so this week’s summary will be a bit shorter than usual (if you can call anything “usual” for a publication that is only four weeks old as of today).

Oops, we forgot the Friday Summary 04-22-2005

In all the excitement generated last week, we completely forgot to do a Friday Summary for April 22, 2005. So, our apologies, and here’s a 10 day look back at the news and information of interest to PhotoshopNews readers.

(log N = log A + m log x) and Photoshop

Ok, I suppose I should explain the title. The formula represents “Pareto’s Law” of income distribution. The Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto used the formula to show that the distribution of income and wealth follows a logarithmic pattern. In essence, 20% of the people have 80% of a nation’s wealth.

Pareto was one of the leaders of The Lausanne School, a Neoclassical school of thought and a proponent of the General Equilibrium Theory, an attempt to use a “tastes-and-obstacles” structure as opposed to a “demand-and-supply” structure in economics. The structure is also called “The Law of the Unequal Distribution of Results”. So what in the world could the 80/20 formula have to do with Photoshop? Read on. . .

Adobe Stock Photos–Good or Bad for Photographers?

There has been a lot of net chatter recently about Adobe’s launch of Creative Suite 2 and the inclusion of a new feature called Adobe Stock Photos. Even before the official announcement on April 4th, some photographers gleaned a bit of information from the leaked press release that said: “provides access to Adobe Stock Photos, a new stock photography service that offers users one-stop shopping — across five elite stock image providers — to deliver high-quality, royalty-free images for layout and design”. The mere mention of “royalty-free images” seems to be an emotional hot-button issue for photographers.

Kate doesn’t like Photoshop – Digital Ethics

In a recent article Kate Winslet is described as “not a fan of Photoshop, preferring to remain as natural and real as she is in the flesh”. The most recent brouhaha is about a movie poster for the soon to be released film Romance and Cigarettes (note, the movie’s web site currently redirects to MGM’s site).

Kate it seems, has a bit of a history with being “excessively” retouched. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say poorly-retouched. There is a difference.

The Photoshop Widows Club

I do many things, and I learn quickly, but writing has never been a strong suit of mine. I hope you will bear with me while my learning curve grows. Telling tall tales is my strong suit–especially when the tale is true. Given who I am, I know many true tall tales.

Whose trademark is it?

In an email from friend Pedro Meyer, publisher of ZoneZero a web site dedicated to digital photography, he writes to PhotoshopNews:

“Dear JEFF!
Someone did a fantastic job…. Congratulations…it’s clean, easy to understand, to the point, practical, necessary, good design. WOW! I thoroughly enjoyed it. BTW… maybe someone at Adobe may want to take Kodak to task, with all the bill boards all over Calcutta in India, surely misusing the copyrights by Adobe on the Photoshop trademark.
