Smart filtering with the Lens blur filter
In Chapter 1 of my Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers book, I provided a brief example of how one might apply the Lens Blur filter to a Smart Object in Photoshop CS3 and keep the background blur settings editable. However, it was pointed out to me just recently that the Lens Blur filter is actually disabled in CS3 when you seek to apply it to a Smart Object. This is one of those things that I failed to notice as I was finalizing the book and it seems that I am not the only author who got caught out by this late change to the program. Fortunately there is an easy remedy for accessing Lens Blur as a Smart Filter. Nov 16, 2007

Known Issues with the CS3 BetaThere are some known issues with the Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta. For example running under MacIntel natively older non-Universal Binary plug-ins will not load into CS3. Also under MacIntel the normal brush size cursors are not working. The new UI can also “test” some Windows XP video drivers. Also, all plug-in filters will need to be updated to be used as Smart Filters in CS3. Read more info regarding issues on Scot Byer’s blog. Oct 2, 2006

Photoshop 9.0.2 Update-Update About 10.3.x MacAs noted on the Mac Photoshop User to User forums (see original thread) there seems to be a reproducible issue with the Photoshop CS2 (9.0.2) update when installed on Mac systems running 10.3.9. The problem seems to cause an immediate crash when trying to print from Photoshop 9.0.2. According to Dave Howe from Photoshop Q&E, they are able to reproduce the problem and engineering is looking into the problem. Adobe may be pulling the Mac 9.0.2 Update to fix the issue with system 10.3.x. There does not appear to be any issues when using Photoshop 9.0.2 to print under 10.4.x. Note: if you have 10.3.x you may need to re-install Photoshop CS2 (9.0.0) and do the 9.0.1 update until the issue is resolved. The 9.0.2 update is still only available via Adobe Updater and is not yet posted as a download. The Windows version of the 9.0.2 updater does not seem to have any problems reported as yet.
