As the release of Photoshop CS3 and Camera Raw 4 gets into the wild, there are some questions regarding whether the Camera Raw 4 settings-which look a lot like Lightroom’s raw settings-are interoperable with Lightroom beta 4.1. No says Lightroom product manager Tom Hogarty in this Lightroom forum thread.

Introduction to tethered shooting – If you are able to connect your camera directly to the computer, Lightroom has the potential to let you import image files directly from the camera.
Photographs can be quickly brought into Lightroom, bypassing the need for a camera card and having to configure the Import settings every time you import a batch of images.
This is also referred to as ‘tethered shooting’ and I say Lightroom has the potential to do this because Lightroom will need to rely on other software that can communicate with your camera and download capture files to a specified folder location.
With this in place, Lightroom can be configured to automatically import these images into the library.

As I’m typing this, I’m sitting outside the exhibition hall at the Javits Center in New York, watching a stream of photographers, graphic artists and a large group of art school students pass into the packed hall at Photo Plus East. I have always liked this show—the focus on imaging is right up my alley, and I like the mix of digital tools with the traditional stuff like lighting products and wedding portfolios.

Project: Photoshop Lightroom with photographer Colin Finlay and Adobe’s Julieanne Kost recently visited the College of DuPage in suburban Chicago. Over the course of two days, students and faculty heard a lecture by Finlay in which he shared his career as a photographer and Adobe’s Senior Evangelist Julieanne Kost, provided students with in-depth seminars on using Photoshop and Lightroom to support a digital workflow.
The second day also comprised a small group of photo students participating with Finlay in a photo shooting assignment. Students selected images from this assignment to be placed into a portfolio and then uploaded to the Project: Photoshop Lightroom site for sharing with the extended community.
Since it was in my general neck of the woods, I drove out to the college to see what was going on (and shoot some snaps).

According to The Business News Source, Apple and Adobe are at war. Which comes as a bit of a shock to people I know at both companies.
The Business News Source, which bills itself as “a free and impartial review of global business news” obviously isn’t all that concerned with “getting it right”.

In this first part review we are going to concentrate on what’s new in the Develop module. This is the first chance to see how the Raw Shooter raw processing technology has been incorporated into Beta 4, and how Adobe has added more versatility to the tone and color edit controls. Some of the key new features are that you can drag-edit the histogram and have the ability to directly edit the tone curve plus make on-image tone curve edits. Michael Reichmann of The Luminous Landscape has released his second Lightroom Video Tutorial DVD featuring Michael and myself (Jeff Schewe) with discussions about Lightroom and tutorials on how to use Lightroom Beta 3. The DVD is available for $14.99 directly from the web site and is available to regular Video Journal subscribers for $5.00 off.
The DVD was shot in June at Michael’s “little cottage in the country” (well, that’s how he described it to me when he invited me). Chris Sanderson, the regular videographer for the Video Journal, taped Michael and I (and served double duty being head chef for dinners). The following is a photo story outlining the shoot. Note: it only has a bit of content regarding Lightroom but has more than a bit of humor mixed in with the photos.

Russell Brown, the chief Adobe Evangelist and all round funny guy has started a photo contest- The Best Photos of Russell.
The contest is only actually open to those photographers that went on the “Lightroom Iceland Adventure” but Russell has given PhotoshopNews permission to post them so our readers can also add to the vote tally.
The winning photographer from the trip will receive an Apple iPod (probably given to Russell by Apple).
Editor’s note: We’ve added the photo credits to the images so you can see who shot which images.
