NEW YORK—Vowing to make RSS friendly to the everyday Web user, an MSN executive demonstrated upcoming services on Wednesday that build syndication feeds into the messaging alerts, a Windows screen saver and Web search.

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Piracy continues to represent a major thorn in the side of software vendors, with over a third of software installed last year on the world’s computers having been pirated and resulting losses mounting to $33 billion, according to a study released Wednesday.

Almost a year to the day after filing patent infringement lawsuits against 31 companies, including Adobe Systems Inc., Apple Computer Inc., Dell Inc. and IBM, Austin, Texas-based Forgent Networks Inc. last week said that its wholly owned subsidiary Compression Labs Inc. has filed suit against Microsoft Corp. for alleged infringement on the patent for JPEG file compression.
