‘I wasn’t expecting this’

Pitt State professor earns Photoshop award

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

But what Rhona Shand got in earlier this month in Las Vegas came home with her.


Shand — an associate professor of art at Pittsburg State — received the Bruce Fraser Photoshop World Memorial Scholarship at the Photoshop World Conference. Shand is the first recipient of the award, which is named for famed Photoshop author and instructor Bruce Fraser, who passed away late last year.

“It was fabulous. Absolutely amazing,” Shand said of her time in Las Vegas.

This isn’t the first time Shand’s name has appeared in the national spotlight. Shand — who teaches commercial art, as well as electronic studio, photography and design — has appeared in the Polaroid P26 magazine as well as Rangefinder magazine. In fact, one of Shand’s processes is one of the reasons she was nominated for the award.
