The Luminous Landscape Gallery Opening

On Friday, May 18th, 2007 I attended the opening of Michael Reichmann’s Luminous Landscape Photography Gallery & Print Studio in Toronto, Ontario. I had ridden my motorcycle over to Toronto to work with Michael to tape a new video tutorial about fine art printing as well as an update to our Lightroom Video Tutorial.

The gallery, located in the up and coming East side of Toronto will house fine art print shows as well as serving as a teaching space for both Michael’s as well as others’ workshops. Click to read more about the The Luminous Landscape Photography Gallery & Print Studio.

The show that kicked off the gallery was a combination of image from Antarctica & Amazonia-two photographic expeditions completed in early 2007. I was fortunate to be along for the Antarctica expedition.

Here’s Michael (with white wine-I gotta get him converted to the red stuff) at the gallery’s front door.

The crowd was large…the entire month of May saw Toronto flooded with photographic venues due to the CONTACT TORONTO PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL.

Michael had large prints in both color and black & white (toned and neutral) hanging in the gallery.

Somebody grabbed my camera to grab a shot of me mingling.

Here’s a quick shot of Christopher Sanderson, Michael’s partner in Luminous Landscape and director/cameraman for all the Luminous Landscape Video Journals and tutorials.

Michael did door duty greating guests and explaining his work.

Meeting new friends and admirers, Michael played the gracious host.

There was a signup sheet for gallery visitors-here’s my wife Becky signing in.

Michael’s new book, The Luminous Landscape 1997 – 2007 a 10 year retrospective was available for viewing.

The gallery is a nice combination of gallery and working space.

Light hors’dourves and beer and wine were served…

…including a buffet table in the front under Michael’s Lolita – Amazonia, April, 2007 print. I must say the print did the image justice.

There was, of course, the usual paparazzi-this one was stalking me.

Here’s Michael and his lovely wife Teya (Michael’s the one on the right).

After three solid days taping with Michael and Chris, I kinda got to hate the sight of this space last week. But it really is a nice location and gallery. There’s even a Starbucks within walking distance (and yes, I needed my quad-grande mocha each day to remain, uh, awake).

Michael has posted a web gallery of the images in his Antarctica & Amazonia show. (click here to view it).

The Luminous Landscape Photography Gallery & Print Studio is located at 270 Carlaw Avenue, Toronto, Ontario (a half block south of Dundas St. E., on the west side of Carlaw).

Of the gallery, Michael says: This is not a typical retail art gallery. It’s open when I’m there working, and closed when I’m not. If you’re in the area and you’d like to drop in on short notice, call the gallery at (416) 462-1170 to see if I’m currently in. Otherwise, if you’d like to make an appointment for a viewing, drop me a line. The gallery is just minutes from my home, and I’ll be pleased to try and accommodate your schedule.

Note though that I travel a great deal, and am also out of town most of the summer, so there are no guarantees that I’ll be there on any particular day.

    Jeff,

Truly enjoyed meeting you and Becky at Michael’s Opening Reception. My photo of you and Becky came out quite nice I thought. I’d be happy to email or snailmail a copy if you like.

It twas a very nice party, wasn’t it? More people should try to see large fine art inkjet prints; when hung right and lit properly it was well worth my trip.

Thanks Jeff for the review. I really enjoyed meeting you and was very impressed to finally see Michael’s work in person. Nothing like seeing lovely images on a wall!
Thanks for the great job the two of you have been doing in explaining Lightroom on your vids…..actually I suggested to Michael you need to take your show on the road…training/information and humor all in one package.

One last comment..you caught me in 2 of your shots….I impressed all my camera buddies back in Vancouver that I was featured on PhotoshopNews.
