Need proof that photo alteration has entered the popular imagination? It’s there in the Daily Bugle.
In Spider-Man 3, the blockbuster that opened to record returns over the weekend, a Daily Bugle freelancer is fired when his editors realize he faked a front-page picture of Spider-Man stealing an armload of cash.
When they learn of the fraud, the editors immediately decide to publish a retraction. “Sorry Spidey” reads the next day’s front page.
It’s a well-timed case of art imitating life, as several cases of questionable photo manipulation have surfaced at real-world newspapers in recent weeks.
