…with a few friends for the new Epson Print Academy in New York City!

Yep, the Big Apple, home of the Yankees (White Sox will win it all again next year) and our first sold out venue - well, Dallas should have been, but we stuffed the room anyway…

Hopefully, we won’t get snowed in as we did in Boston, but we had fun on our day off…

We’re coming in to NYC for a special one day Epson event that will be hitting a 10+ city tour - check out the Epson Print Academy for details and online registration. (NYC is sold out but we’ll be in Washington, D.C. on March 18th).

No, I didn’t take any pictures of our dinners (and wine), I decided to cover the actual event this time. So, here’s Boston!

The event was held at the Back Bay Events Center in John Hancock Hall in Boston.

JP and I started our day at Starbucks. I’ve introduced JP to the fine art of drinking 4, 5 and even 6 shot espresso drinks! I had a 4 shot Mocha.

The hall before the crowd comes in - making sure stuff is actually working. A few early birds are already camped out to make sure they have good seats.

Mac Holbert had his camera (Mac, dude, you didn’t send any images to me!) and grabbed a shot of me.

George Jardine from Adobe thought the time was a bit EARLY-he had come in the night before from San Jose. George needed some coffee.

Vinnie needed less caffiene and maybe some more sleep? Greg was a bit shocked to hear Vinnie growl, but Vinnie pulled it together-he always does.

The doors are opened and attendees come in.

We start…

…so I though I would get a shot of the crowd.

And then a shot of me - of course, JP had to run over with HIS camera.

We had a good crowd in Boston, about 200. I finally got the printer to print…sometimes there are, uh, “technical issues”, don’t ya know!

Part of the Track Two program are short video segments of me interviewing Mark Radogna of Epson about some relatively hard questions. OK, some of them are soft balls but some are pretty tough.

At the lunch break, people can wander around in the expo area…

GTI viewing booths and Photoshop User Magazine (NAPP) were there.

Solux and NEC…I forgot to get a shot of the X-Rite booth - sorry guys.

The pro dealer was Hunt’s…with a bunch of stuff for sale.

Including my favorite “little printer” the Epson PictureMate!

Wacom had their Cintiq 21UX (ya know, I might just have to try one out).

George Jardine was demoing Adobe Lightroom.

Mac, JP and I had lunch…yes, I see your apple core JP.

One of the attendees was even playing the piano…

He was pretty darn good!

I finally got shots of Greg Gorman speaking…

Greg showed his celebrities, in B&W…

…and talked about his transition into digital and using the Advanced B&W Photo mode of the Epson driver for his B&W printing.

At the break, Mac demoed how to do a Photo Black to Matte Black switchover.

Always seems to draw a crowd. Yes, we wish we didn’t have to worry about the switch, but it only takes about 10 minutes. Mac also demoed tricks for loading thick sheets manually.

During the break, Greg hung around and talked about printing and B&W.

Atendees got to look at prints he made, up close.

Boston was a pretty educated and tough crowd. Lots of “Grey beards”. That’s ok, I have one too.

JP grabbed my leather beret and dared me to take it…I took it.

JP and Mac did a twosome - JP covers of lot of fine art printing tips and Mac talks about commercial printing for artists.

The crowd seemed to like the stuff…some people even bought printers and carried them around.

Mac taked about the history of Nash Editions - in fact, he and Graham Nash will be getting an award at PMA for “Inventing Digital Fine Art Printing”.

Mac and JP talk back and forth about some of the issues facing photographers - including print longevity. JP has to talk with his hands, of course.

Greg always sits in the front row (although he no longer needs to take notes, he’s heard it enough already). He also keeps a sharp eye out in case I get close with my camera - didn’t realize my wide angle caught ya, huh, Greg?

Yes, in case you didn’t hear - Boston got socked in by snow. Here’s the view out my hotel window on Sunday.

The upside was we got a day off in Boston - all expenses paid of course, and yes, we had wine with dinner…

Also, instead of the usual two week break between events, we’ll be in Chicago the following weekend of March 4th. Plenty of room, so far.
