Source: Photoshop Support Knowledgebase

Issue: When you start Adobe Bridge, Bridge returns the error message, “The application could not load Adobe Camera Raw. Use the Adobe Bridge installer to reinstall the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in. If you continue you may experience some problems when attempting to modify raw image files.”

Details

You are running Bridge version 1.0.3.

You recently installed Production Studio, Audition 2.0, After Effects 7.0, Encore DVD 2.0, Premiere Pro 2.0, or Premiere Elements 2.0.

When you attempt to open a Camera Raw file from Photoshop CS2, you see the error message, “Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.”

Solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Remove and reinstall Adobe Bridge.

Remove and reinstall Bridge 1.0.3 to restore the Camera Raw plug-in to its proper location. If you wish to resolve the problem and update the Camera Raw plug-in to the latest version, see Solution 2.

Note: You may not be able to simply perform a Repair on the Bridge installation. You should instead remove Bridge completely using Add/Remove Programs before you reinstall it.

Solution 2: Update the Camera Raw plug-in to the latest version.

Update the Camera Raw plug-in to the latest version available on the Adobe website. To do this, you must re-create the directory structure to put the plug-in in the proper place.

1. Download the latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Windows .

2. Navigate to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe.

3. Create a new folder and name it Plug-Ins.

4. Open the folder you created in step 3. Create a new folder and name it CS2.

5. Open the folder you created in step 4. Create a new folder and name it File Formats.

6. Place the Camera Raw plug-in into the folder you created in step 5.
