LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) – Adobe Systems Inc. next Thursday is expected to report a higher quarterly profit as revenue rises 21% on strong demand for its digital-document management and design software, according to the average forecast of Wall Street analysts.

With analysts mostly expecting Adobe (ADBE: news, chart, profile) to hand over a quarterly scorecard in line with expectations and its own forecast, a key area of focus for investors will be Adobe’s pending acquisition of Macromedia Inc. (MACR: news, chart, profile)

Analysts expect Adobe’s fiscal third-quarter earnings to rise to 27 cents a share on revenue of $487 million, up from 22 cents and $403.7 million a year ago, according to the average estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call.

Adobe, based in San Jose, Calif., in early August affirmed its own forecast calling for profit of 25 cents to 27 cents a share on revenue of $470 million to $490 million. See full story.

The company said demand remained strong across all major geographic markets for its Creative Suite bundle of graphic-design software and its ubiquitous Acrobat program, which is used to publish and share electronic documents.
