Generic camera thumbnails still appear after you install Camera Raw 3.1 update (Adobe Bridge 1.0)

Source: Photoshop Support Knowledgebase

Issue: Generic camera thumbnails still appear for supported camera raw file formats (that is, thumbnails for newly supported cameras don’t appear) in Adobe Bridge after you install the Camera Raw 3.1 update.

Details

You installed the plug-in to the Photoshop Only Plug-ins folder.

You didn’t purge the Central Cache to the common CS2 Plug-ins folder after you installed the plug-in.

Solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Important: Purging the Central Cache deletes cached thumbnail information for all folders. It also deletes labels, ratings and rotation settings for read-only files (for example, files on a CD or locked files) or file formats that don’t have XMP support.

Solution 1: Purge the Central Cache.

1. Start Bridge.

2. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.

Solution 2: Install the Camera Raw plug-in in the common CS2 plug-ins folder and then purge the Central Cache.

Windows:

1. Quit Photoshop CS2 and Bridge.

2. Open My Computer.

3. Navigate to Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats.

4. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to a safe location (for example, a new folder on your desktop) in case you need to restore it.

5. Copy the new Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 3.

6. Start Photoshop CS2 or Bridge.

7. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.

Mac OS X:

1. Quit Photoshop CS2 and Bridge.

2. Open the Finder.

3. Navigate to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats.

4. Move the existing Camera Raw.plugin plug-in to a safe location (for example, a new folder on your desktop) in case you need to restore it.

5. Copy the new Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 3.

6. Start Photoshop CS2 or Bridge.

7. Choose Tools > Cache > Purge Central Cache.

Background information

Bridge recognizes the Camera Raw 3.1 plug-in only if it’s installed to the common CS2 Plug-ins folder.

Purging the Central Cache forces Bridge to recognize the Camera Raw 3.1 plug-in, including the new camera settings and options that it adds to Bridge.
