Source: Photoshop Support Knowledgebase

Issue
When you hold Command and Space Bar to change the cursor to the Zoom In tool (magnifying glass) in Adobe Photoshop CS-CS2 or Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 on Mac OS X v10.4, the Spotlight menu appears.

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Press the Space Bar before you press the Command key.

When you press the Space Bar first, Mac OS X does not recognize the keyboard shortcut as the command to display the Spotlight menu.

Solution 2: Change the Mac OS X keyboard shortcut for the Spotlight menu.

To change the keyboard shortcut:

1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.

2. Choose Spotlight.

3. Select a new keyboard shortcut from the Spotlight Menu Keyboard Shortcut menu.

4. Choose System Preferences > Quit System Preferences.

Solution 3: Disable the Mac OS X keyboard shortcut for the Spotlight menu.

To disable the keyboard shortcut:

1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.

2. Choose Spotlight.

3. Deselect Spotlight Menu Keyboard Shortcut.

4. Choose System Preferences > Quit System Preferences.

Note: If you disable the Spotlight Menu Keyboard Shortcut, then the Spotlight menu does not appear in any application.

Background information

Spotlight is a new feature of Mac OS 10.4. By default, Spotlight reserves the Command+Space Bar keyboard shortcut, which Photoshop and Photoshop Elements also use to change the cursor to the Zoom In tool.
