Source: Adobe Photoshop Support Knowledgebase
Issue
When you attempt to open a PSD file that you last saved in Adobe Photoshop you get the error “Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop.”
Details
You installed Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0 software.
Solutions
Do one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Update your virus definitions.
Run the Norton AntiVirus Live Update to ensure that you have the latest virus definitions available from the Symantec website.
Solution 2: Disable the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect.
If the problem continues, disable the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect option in the Symantec QuickMenu or the System Preferences. For further information, visit the Symantec website at www.symantec.com .
Files that are already damaged, however, cannot be opened after updating your Norton AntiVirus software.
Background information
Symantec is currently investigating the problem of corruption in Photoshop files. This problem occurs with the Norton AntiVirus Live Update posted in November 2004. Updates posted after November 2004 are expected to resolve the problem.
If you wish to remove the software from Mac OS 10.3, you must download the Symantec Uninstaller 1.0.1 from the Symantec website.
